Temporomandibular Joint Disorder, often referred to as TMJ disorder, can be a very painful experience. Many people every year are diagnosed with this disorder. However, in many situations the problem can be cleared up in a short period of time. In rare instances sufferers may need to have surgery in order to have this problem taken care of. Statistics show more women suffer from this disorder than men.

The first indication of this disorder is pain. Sufferers can experience several different symptoms of TMJ pain. The most common type of pain sufferers experience is jaw pain. Many people also suffer from headaches, dizziness, and ear pain with this disorder too. Some people also experience what is commonly referred to as lock jaw due to this disorder. This is when the jaw either locks into position or is hard to open and close, often while chewing or biting on food. A clicking or popping sound is also heard when suffers are biting or chewing food. Many times this popping sound is also quite painful. There are many other symptoms of TMJ pain too.
